@skydaddy Saw one girl work one shift & quit. She said she preferred making same $ at WalMart w/o working hard, mopping, or getting stinky.
@skydaddy I've seen lots of young kids come & go, working at our family's DQ. I'm not sure if many learned 1/2 of those skills.
Oh, yes... Junior Achievement.
In the 80's (when I was in HS) there was an activity that paired a student w/ a local biz person who mentored re: biz project.
RT @mdoeff: Meetup.com announcing sponsored meetup groups at #CMSummit eg Huggies sponsoring mother's groups [Did U see it coming? Me, too.]
@VespaRos Were they business ed classes? Yes, should definitely be required.
@skydaddy Thanks. Kinda old-fashioned, but it is on a computer. ;) I'm thinking something more immersive, w/ decision-making & consequences.
@justinmwhitaker World of Warcraft, eh? I wonder what @alist would think of that idea. Sounds like it has merit.
@ajkandy Maybe it's a subconscious noodling of a human-computer interaction possible research topic. *shrug*
@ajkandy Good guess. Just brainstorming. I have a 14yo. Have seen undergrads not know how to use a computer for basic communication tasks.
Kinda like a VoTech for everyday modern office skills. Otherwise, how do kids learn this if parents don't provide role model & instruction?
Seems like such a "game" should exist already, perhaps as part of Sims. And seems like a coordinated effort in high schools would be good.
A sim job environment wd require person 2 show up on time, properly dressed, respond promptly & correctly to communication & complete tasks.
HS kids learn re: parenting w/ 'real baby' doll. Couldn't they learn work skills w/ 'real job' computer simulation? Does this exist already?
@iWriter I'm guessing 'bot' stems from 'robot' since the account does merely what it's programmed to do, having no 'free will'.
@iWriter So @meanbot tracks tweets using word "mean" and then sends an @reply w/text that is somewhat randomly formulated.
@iWriter A Twitter bot is an account set up to tweet messages defined by some particular code. At least, that's my imprecise definition.
@dltq FWIW, my husband and I have three WD portable external HDs (branded as "Passport" I think) and all have held up quite well.
Although @MeanBot is the funniest Twitter bot I've seen, I still blocked it.
